About Us

Thanks for visiting our Website and for wanting to know more about how we began. Since my wife, Heather, officially started the company, I thought it would be appropriate to write the story, because, after all, there would be no Taspen's without her!

Heather grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and moved to Colorado after she graduated from Nursing School at South Dakota State University in 2000. She feels very fortunate to live in Colorado because she loves being out in nature hiking, camping, biking, taking a kayak ride on the lake and snowboarding. The beauty and serenity of the mountain tops, whether it is a summer sunset or sunny winter day, holds a special place in her heart.

Heather worked as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the hospital setting in Denver for many years. She has always enjoyed helping others with their health, which is the reason she became an RN. From the time she was little, she would volunteer her time in the Meals on Wheels program, bake goodies for the residents of the local nursing home, and rake leaves for the elderly. This is what led her to the person she is today, which has always been about helping others.

The rest of the story will tell how and why the company began.

For many years Heather experienced inner ear congestion, which affected her hearing. After many medical exams and multiple medications, she became very frustrated when the problem persisted. Luckily, one day, while sitting on her deck outside on a beautiful day reading a local mountain community magazine, she read an article about an Herbalist. After reading her profile, she was so intrigued and curious that she decided to make an appointment. Needless to say, that was the moment that changed her life forever. During her consultation, she found out that her ear congestion was likely being caused by Candida. Candida is a systemic overgrowth of yeast in the body. There are numerous symptoms that are caused by Candida, ear congestion is one of the not so common symptoms. Shortly after starting on a supplement program and the Candida diet, which includes eliminating sugar, yeast, most grains and any processed foods, the ear congestion was gone and she felt the best she had in many years.

She was so excited and fascinated because for three years, she had seen multiple doctors and two Ear, Nose & Throat Specialists, which all continued to prescribe allergy medications and eventually a steroid medication, Prednisone, that has many horrible side effects. None of the medications worked, in fact, the Prednisone worsened the condition. Knowing what she knows today, after all her training and experience with clients, she understands why the medications didn't help. They didn't address the root cause of the condition. This success brought about a profound interest in nutrition, herbs and natural healing, so she decided to take courses to complete a Master Herbalist Certification while working as an RN in the hospital.

As Heather became more aware of toxic ingredients in most products, she started reading the ingredients listed on organic and natural skin care products in the health food stores. She was appalled to find out that these products still contained toxic ingredients. This prompted her to start making a few products for herself and her family. It immediately became something that she was excited about and loved to do. All of her friends and family that had used the products she made kept telling her she needed to do this professionally, so, what started out as a few facial care products along with some baby products has become a full blown product line ranging from healing herbal salves, a complete facial/skin care line, aromatherapy, herbal tinctures, herbal teas, granola bars, energy bars, trail mix, raw chocolate mixes and so much more. Our dreams became reality with the opening of Taspen's Organics & Holistic Wellness Center. We have a retail area along with comfortable healing rooms for our practitioners consultations. In addition to the retail and services, we host meditations, classes, seminars and workshops.

Taspen's is a comfortable, sacred space in a beautiful log building in the gorgeous mountains in Conifer, Colorado. As I began to see how amazing the products were working for people and soon became the main sales and marketing person for Taspen's while Heather was making products and working with clients. I left behind a successful real estate business to help start this company from the ground up. The first few years were amazing in some aspects and also had some tough lessons as we were learning the ins and outs of the business. The biggest question was, how do we get these products to the people? We decided to get our products to people by doing farmer markets, trade shows, holiday shows, craft fairs, and other mobile events. Over time, we have met business owners of spas, salons, baby stores, yoga studios, coffee shops, many of whom retail our product line in their shops so wholesaling has become a big part of our business.

Thanks to our amazing staff, we have been able to grow and keep up with the demand for our products.

We have two wonderful children, Taylor & Aspen which equals the company name, Taspen's. Our kids have inspired us in so many ways in our personal and professional lives. Many of the baby and children's products were originally made for them.

We love to be outdoors camping, kayaking, snowboarding, hiking, listening to music, going to shows and music festivals and spending time with friends and family. Thank you for reading the story of Taspen's Organics. We are confident that you will enjoy the products and services as much as we do. ~Keith Baruch
