Lately I've been looking for delicious, easy, on-the-go snacks that I can make that have no processed sugars. I've also been reserved with snacks that have low amounts of natural sugars (i.e. from fruits, veggies, starches, grains, etc.). But I must admit, I LOVE chocolate, so how could I do this without the sugar? Additionally, I continue to search for foods I can eat to help heal my body's ailments.
In my search, I found this excellent blog article by Amanda of My Edible Sunshine: Healing with Chocolate and Herbs. I am also a big fan of healing the body with plants, and what better way to satisfy my chocolate cravings with a healthy snack AND plant medicine?
Check out this wonderful article of how to make these delicious snacks by using a nut butter as a base, a sweetener (which could include dates if you don't want to do honey or maple syrup), cacao, chopped nuts, raisins, coconut flakes, and your own essential blend of medicinal herbs. She suggests using tonic, adaptogenic herbs which help your body adapt to and resist stress and are safe to take daily.
Ashwagandha ~ for increased energy
Powdered Reishi Mushroom & Astragulus ~ increased immune system
Gotu Kola ~ brain boost
Happy Snack making! :)
