Consider the Apple

Ahhh it's Fall, and what better way to celebrate the season than re-balancing our diets with healthy, delicious foods. The apple is one of those foods that not only accentuates the season, but helps our bodies get back to balance.

Remember that saying "Eating an apple a day will keep the doctor away"? Well it's true, as the apple is a nutritional powerhouse! 

We need micro-nutrients (i.e. vitamins and minerals) to maintain a balanced diet. According to Master Herbalist Kelly Pomeroy, micro-nutrients are essential to the body for normal growth, muscle response, healthy nervous system, digestion, production of hormones, metabolism of nutrients and so much more!

Apples are excellent helpers in providing us vitamins and minerals, as well as enzymes to break these nutrients down in our digestive systems!  Apples in their whole state contain vitamin A, vitamins B1,2,6, niacin, pantothenic acid, folic acid, vitamin C, vitamin E, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, sodium, zinc and trace minerals. Consuming apples in smoothies, juices and other delicious recipes are excellent ways to get all of these nutrients in the body without taking too many supplements at once!
